Packing for the Last Frontier can feel intimidating. We don’t want you to miss a beat or spend time shopping once you hit the ground. So we have compiled a list of the most used gear and clothing suggestions below! One of the biggest tips we can share with you, so you are comfortable throughout your stay in Alaska is to dress like an onion! Layers, layers, layers are the best way to dress. Weather can change throughout the day, so it’s essential to remove layers and add them back as needed.

  • Sunglasses not just for the sun – but for eye protection as well! Required when bank fishing.
  • Hat and gloves
  • Wool socks are highly recommended for the entirety of your trip, but particularly for when you are wearing rubber boots or waders
  • Warm mid-layer jacket (many people pack down or down alternative jackets to layer under their rain jackets and/or outer windproof layer)
  • Lighter Jacket with windproofing
  • A base layer such as merino wool or fleece is highly recommended
  • Rain gear that is actually waterproof, not just water resistant
  • Comfortable boots or closed-toe shoes
  • Rubber boots or waterproof shoes for halibut fishing if you are doing an ocean charter. You can also wear tennis shoes or hiking boots etc. But just know that there is the possibility of getting fish slime and blood on these!
  • Comfortable pants – for August and September we highly recommend long underwear to wear under your jeans/pants
  • Shorts if you’re traveling in July or early August the temperatures can swing quite a bit
  • Not required, but many people benefit from sleeping with an eye mask due to our extended daylight hours
  • Mosquito repellent – we generally have a stash at the lodge by the barbecue area left by previous clients, but if you need a specific type we recommend you bring it!

Items Available at the Lodge

  • Hip waters and chest waders (sizes and quantities limited) please inquire if you have a group with all similar sizing etc. We try to make sure everyone’s taken care of, but you may have to go up a size, etc., depending on the group make up at the lodge that week!
  • Fishing Poles for Bank Fishing
  • Fishing licenses and King tags if applicable, may be purchased online before your trip to Alaska.
  • Soft-sided day coolers and ice for you to pack lunches and snacks for your fishing excursions
  • Hard coolers and trash bags to take to fly out or ocean trips to bring your fish back to the lodge for processing
