Fishing Guide Gratuity Guide

We want your Alaska fishing adventure to be memorable, stress-free, and fun. While gratuities are never required, guests often ask what is customary when it comes to tipping guides and crew. To help provide some guidance, here are general practices in the Alaska fishing industry:

  • Typical Range: Many guests choose to leave a gratuity in the range of 15–20% of the trip cost, depending on their experience. You can find your individual trip cost in your detailed final invoice which breaks down each trip cost.
  • Per Person Option: Another common approach is $50–$100 per angler per day, given directly to your guide.
  • Exceptional Service: If your guide went above and beyond—whether that’s putting in extra effort to find fish, offering top-notch instruction, or making the trip especially enjoyable—feel free to show your appreciation at a level that feels right to you.
  • Crew Tips: On larger boats with deckhands or multiple guides, it’s customary to tip the crew as well. Tips are often pooled and shared among staff.

We prefer that guides are tipped directly via cash. But, let us know if you are a business or larger group that needs your gratuities added to your invoice. We can of course, accommodate this as needed but like to communicate that with our guides ahead of time.

At the end of the day, gratuities are a personal choice and should reflect your satisfaction with the service you received. Your presence and participation mean the most, and we’re grateful to share Alaska’s incredible fisheries with you.
